The serpentine belt is a long rubber belt that runs along your vehicle's engine and drives many important components such as the alternator, power steering pump, air conditioning system and water pump

For most vehicles, it is recommended to have the belt checked once the vehicle has reached 60,000 kilometers.
It is also important to carry out visual and acoustic inspections for wear before reaching this mileage.

For most vehicles, it is recommended to replace the belt at 90 kilometers (regardless of its appearance) to reduce the risk of a crack. A broken V-belt can be dangerous when driving and cause serious damage to the engine.

Symptoms of a defective V-belt

  • Rib separation (one or more ribs have separated from the belt body)
  • Rib or belt wear
  • Cracks in the longitudinal direction of the belt (cracks between two ribs)
  • Belt slides
  • “Groove jump” (the belt does not hold the correct position on the pulley)
  • Broken belt (Note: Identify and correct problem before installing new belt)
  • Noises (an unpleasant squeaking, squeaking or rumbling noise is heard or felt while the drive belt is in operation)

If oil or coolant contamination is visible on the belt, the belt should also be replaced and the leaks eliminated.
