What size must the injection nozzles be?
The size of the injectors required depends on many different factors - power, fuel type, fuel pressure, etc.

What is the maximum fuel pressure I can use with DW injectors?
We recommend an operating pressure of 40-80 psi for optimum performance. The maximum pressure depends on the manufacturer's specifications. The maximum pressure for Bosch EV14 is 8 bar or 116 psi (part numbers starting with 16, 17 or 18). We recommend a maximum pressure of 7 bar or 102 psi for Denso injectors (part numbers starting with 21 and 22).

Are your injectors compatible with E85?
All DeatschWerks injectors are suitable for use with ethanol fuels.

Are your injectors compatible with MTBE-enriched fuels?
All of our injectors are compatible with MTBE-enriched fuels, with the exception of the Bosch EV14 2200cc (part number 16s-xx-2200-x). This particular part number has an elastomer seal that can swell in the presence of MTBE and cause flow restriction.

Do I have to "tune" my vehicle if I install high-performance injectors?
Yes, whenever you install larger than stock fuel injectors in your vehicle, some type of tuning (flash, piggyback, stand-alone, etc.) must be performed in order for your vehicle to function properly.

Can I install your injectors and drive to the workshop for tuning?
Injectors are controlled by the ECU. The injectors installed are often at least twice as large as the standard injectors. Without informing the ECU that the controlled injectors have a different flow rate, the ECU cannot control the injector pulses correctly. Often the engine will not start with the stock tune and the higher flow rate injectors. Your tuner may be able to send you a temporary base tune that you can take the car to them to have a proper tune performed.

What is the injector latency?
Latency is a measure of the time it takes for an injector to fully open after it has received the signal to fire. It is usually measured in milliseconds or microseconds and is an important parameter in tuning. Other terms that are synonymous with latency are dwell time, offset, delay, etc. We usually use the term battery offset. Our general characterization overviews contain the battery offset at various pressures and voltages. These overviews can be found in the "Resources" section of our website.

Does the fuel pressure affect the flow rate of the injector?
Yes, an increase in fuel pressure INCREASES the flow rate of the injector. DW injector flow rates are calculated at a pressure of 43.5 psi (3 bar). Although DW injectors can operate at pressures above 100 psi, we recommend a system pressure of 40-80 psi for optimal performance (faster injector response times, optimized spray patterns and increased reliability of your overall fuel system). In the "Resources" section of our website, you will find a calculator that you can use to calculate the flow rate of your injectors at various pressures.

Why are your injectors louder than my standard injectors?
Some of our injectors are considerably larger than standard injectors. A slightly increased noise is characteristic of larger injectors and is normal. Inline fuel pulsation dampeners can often help to reduce injector noise.

How does DeatschWerks obtain application-specific injection nozzle data?
Application-specific data is obtained by formatting the general characterization data into the parameters required for the specific application. This data is then tested in the vehicle and the values are optimized to account for differences between the variables in the lab and in the vehicle. This optimization process is the reason why the general characterization overviews sometimes differ from the application-specific data.

How does DeatschWerks obtain its injection nozzle data?
All DW fuel injector characterization data is collected and calculated internally. The process involves the collection and analysis of over 450 data points on 4 standardized fuel injectors that are representative of the specific injector part number being tested.
All data is collected internally using calibrated digital turbine flow meters and fully programmable fuel injector drivers. Test procedures are performed in accordance with SAE J1832. Our offsets are calculated using linear regression from 5 different pulse widths, 4 different voltages and 4 different pressures. The data between the tested voltages and pressures are interpolated.
